Water Wise Societies is part of Impact Innovation, a national initiative by Vinnova,
Formas, and the Swedish Energy Agency.
The program is led by RISE in collaboration with IVL Swedish Environmental
Research Institute, Linköping Science Park, Lund University, Stockholm Environment
Institute, and Svenskt Vatten.
As part of the Water Wise Societies program, 20 projects are now being launched,
all aimed at achieving the vision of sustainable water for all by 2050. The projects
funded under the call “Collaboration for Sustainable Water for All” span a wide
range of themes.

About the project:
The project aims to strengthen water management systems for crises and disasters
by creating robust, flexible, and collaborative approaches among key stakeholders.
Initially focused on firefighting and extinguishing water, it explores alternative
sources, circular reuse, and simplified decision-making tools to enhance resilience.
Through workshops, policy analyses, and feasibility studies, the project develops a
vision for water management that integrates innovative technologies and
international best practices. Stakeholders, including municipalities, regulatory
bodies, and academic experts, will collaboratively design strategies for scaling and
implementation. Ultimately, the project contributes to building a water-resilient
society aligned with the 2035 Water Wise Societies goals.

WIN’s Role:
WIN will act as the overall project coordinator, ensuring timely execution of
activities and alignment with project objectives. It will facilitate stakeholder
engagement through workshops, fostering collaboration among municipalities,
regulatory bodies, and academic partners. Additionally, WIN will oversee the
development of deliverables, including the vision scenarios, transition roadmap, and
scaling strategy, while leveraging its extensive networks in water and public safety
innovation.
